The operation is very simple, during the day depending on solar radiation, the photovoltaic installation produces electricity for free, this energy is injected into its electrical installation, where the energy produced will feed the energy loads connected at the moment, if it is producing more energy than what it consumes, the surplus can be stored in a battery bank (if you choose this solution) or if you don't have batteries or the batteries are already charged, the surplus is injected into the grid.

The market price that has been verified in the last year, the sale of the surplus to the network has been very attractive, considerably reducing the return on investment.


Installation types

There are several types of installation, I leave the most common:

  • Photovoltaic Installation Connected to the Grid - The production surplus is injected into the grid (can be sold), if the photovoltaic system does not produce enough, the grid supplies the remaining missing.

  • Photovoltaic Installation Connected to the Grid with Batteries - The production surplus is used to charge the batteries, to use the energy later, in case the batteries are already at their maximum capacity, the energy is injected into the grid (can be sold), in of the photovoltaic system does not produce enough, the grid will supply the remainder.

  • Photovoltaic Installation on Island - In this type of installation, the system is not connected to the public grid, its installation being dependent only on the photovoltaic installation, so installations with batteries are always used to bridge the most rigorous winter nights and days. For these installations, it is advisable to dimension batteries and panels in order to achieve an autonomy of at least 3 days in the forecast of the worst day of the year, so that the chance of running out of energy is reduced.

The legislation already allows the installation of an island system without being connected to the electricity grid, in any construction (provided that the construction is legal, for example for remote locations, where the branch is very far away, or even of its own volition) , however, to do so, it may be necessary to substantiate the case.
